Description
Pudong is Shanghai's new business district; it does not resemble any of the other cities in the world. This area has transformed very rapidly in less than 20 years. 20 years ago, on the same place there were peasant villages and agricultural farms. Later a financial center that represents the economic power of the world, raised . The whole architecture of Pudong is extraordinary. There are many futuristic forms here, beginning with the Pearl of the Orient, built in 1995, to the World Trade Center .But they are clearly manifested in the Jin Mao Tower. Jin Mao enters the top 10 tallest skyscrapers in the world. Now it is the sixth tallest building in the world. As this tower is one of the tallest buildings in the world, its height from the base to the top of the spire is 421 m. together with many other super modern skyscrapers in Asia, Jin Mao Tower is a high technology miracle. A fabulous sum of money was wasted for its creation . The building was designed by some Western architects (from a Chicago company). Although it was designed by an American company, it has a true Chinese flavor. In the dark years of the "cultural revolution", the country's leaders called at the creation of a new society free from the legacy of the past. Being built in 1999, already in other political circumstances, Jin Mao Tower is an attempt to pay tribute to national traditions in a modern way.
Structure
Made of steel and aluminum, the tower looks weightless. Looking at this tower, we have a feeling that it is made of traditional materials as wood and bamboo. The construction of the tower was very difficult. The problem was that the engineers have not found solid rocks deep under the place where the tower is situated today. In addition, there are a lot of earthquakes and hurricanes in Shanghai. Still the stability of the building is determined by 1062 hollow steel piles, anchoring at a 84 m depth. At the time of the tower being built, there was no other such a tower in the world. The first 50 floors are devoted to the offices with total area of 123 thousand square meteres. 10 thousand people work there. Then there are two technical floors, and 555 hotel rooms are situated on the last floors of the tower. Here you can see one of the most spectacular interior design in the world. Grand Hyatt Hotel is famous not only because for its excellent service and its high altitude location, but for the grand atrium that starts on 56th floor and extends up until the 87th floor too. Surrounded by 28 corridors, as if twisted into a spiral, it is an unforgettable place. The observation deck is placed on a breathtaking height and it offers astonishing views of Shanghai and the Yangtze River. The observation deck is called Skywalk. The total Skywalk area is 1520 sq.m. It can accommodate over 1,000 people at the same time. The price of the ticket to the observation deck is $ 10 per person ($ 5 cost of child ticket). Skywalk is open daily from 8:30 am to 9pm Jin Mao Tower together with the other skyscrapers in Shanghai underline the role of the city in a stable growing and developing economy of China.
History
Shanghai has a population of 20 million people and it is the world's largest port and the largest city in China. In 1842, when the Opium Wars were over, its territory was divided into three zones: British, French and American, each with their own governmental body. The further life of the city was very difficult. In 1937 it was occupied by Japanese troops, and during World War II, Europeans who lived there had to endure all the hardships of internment. 1949 is the time when the reign of Mao Zedong began, Shanghai quickly lost its reputation of the city of brothels and dark places. The construction of Jin Mao was begun in 1994 and it was completed in the 1998. It was solemnly opened on August, 28. The real functioning of the tower began only in 1999. The construction is based on the essence of the octagon .Actually number 8 is read in the East part of Asia as a lucky number. Each floor of Jin Mao is divided into sixteen elements, and the basis has an octagonal shape. At the same time the foundation is supported by 16 columns. The additional strength to the building is assured by 3 rows of steel beams. Each set of beams has a height equal to 2 floors. At present, Shanghai has become the symbol of economic dynamism in China. That is why it is worth visiting. In case that you are here, come and enjoy yourself. This grandeur of the human mind leaves people breathless.
