Russell Crowe was born on 7th of April 1964 in Wellington, New Zealand and raised in Sydney, Australia, where his family moved when he was four years old.
He started his acting career and played in small Australian shows. Later he played in a band and worked as a waiter or bartender. When he was 25, Crowe landed his first role in the film "Prisoners of the Sun", but his performances were really noted in the movie "Proof" in 1991 for which he won the prize for the Best Actor in a secondary role from the Australian Film Institute.
Sharon Stone noted him when he played his role in "Romper Stomper" and received a role in the American film "The Quick and the Dead" where he starred next to Gene Hackman and Leonardo DiCaprio. Crowe was the only positive thing in the film, which did not take many receipts at box-office.
Then he starred in "LA Confidential" and "The Insider", with a great role for which he received an Oscar nomination for the Best Actor.
Crowe won the Oscar in 2001 for the best actor in a leading role in Gladiator Maximus, from the successful production Gladiator, directed by Ridley Scott. After this success, including his music band, 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, supported his first U.S. concert in Austin, Texas. Tickets were sold even with $ 500. The Critic Film Association also awarded him with a prize for the best actor, and Crowe received nominations for awards Screen Actors Guide, as well as BAFTA and Golden Globe.
A year ago, was nominated for Oscar for his role in The Insider, a film by Michael Mann. The character of Jeffrey Wigand, interpreted by Crowe, who was a former employee at a tobacco company, brought to Russell the prize for the Best Actor from the Association of Film Critics from Los Angeles and National Society of Film Critics in America.
He was nominated for a Golden Globe, BAFTA and Screen Actors Guild Award. A few years ago, Crowe noted, gaining international prestige due to the role of cop Bud White in LA Confidential, a successful film directed by Curtis Hanson.
Born in New Zealand, Crowe was raised in Australia, where he was rewarded for his work. His merits were recognized by the Australian Film Institute (AFI) for three consecutive years since 1991, when he was nominated as the best actor, for his role in The Crossing. The following year, received the award for the Best actor for his performances in Proof, and in 1992 was nominated as the Best Actor by AFI and by the Australian Film Critics Association for his role in the controversial Romper Stomper production. Crowe made his debut in the world of the American film with his appearance in 1995 in the western The Quick and the Dead, next to Sharon Stone, followed by his role as Sid's hacker 6.7 of Virtuosity, a film in which also starred Denzel Washington. Russell Crowe is still an extraordinary actor, a fantastic movie star who continues to surprise us with amazing roles and characters.
