Daniel Day-Lewis is one of the best actors of his generation, but also one of the most selective. Born in London, he is the son of the actress Jill Ireland Balcon and Irish poet Cecil Day-Lewis, and the grandson of the legendary director of Ealing Studious, Sir Michael Balcon. He debuted in the Sunday, Bloody Sunday when he was 14, as vandal. It was something "dreamlike" he recalls, destroying expensive cars parked near the church and more he received money-two pounds - for it.
After the experience from the National Youth Theatre, he joined the Bristol Old Vic team from Theatre School. He played a small role, a thug in Gandhi by Richard Attenborough, after this he played a leading role in the play Another Country. He later appeared in The Bounty with Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins.
Proving increasing versatility, Daniel interprets two completely different roles in “My Beautiful LAUNDRETTE” which ran simultaneously with “A Room With A View”. At the end of 1980s, Day-Lewis starred in Philip Kaufman's novel by Milan Kundera “The Unbearable Lightness of Being” with Lena Olin and Juliette Binoche.
The first Oscar he won with his role as Christy Brown in Jim Sheridan's film "My Left Foot". Then he returned to theater in "Hamlet" at the National Theatre, which was the last role played on stage.
In the early 1990s he returned to cinema with a role in “THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS” and then in the “The Age of Innocence” by Martin Scorsese.
In 1993, Daniel Day-Lewis is again nominated for Oscar for "In the name of the Father", a film directed by Jim Sheridan. In the 90s he starred in "The Crucible" and "The Boxer". In 2002, in the film of Martin Scorsesse, "Gangs of New York," Day-Lewis gives a phenomenal interpretation, which brings him another Oscar nomination. The actor revealed that for entering the state of the role, he was listening to the music of Eminem. After several years, he plays in his wife’s film "The Balld of Jack". In 2007, two years after the previous film, Daniel Day-Lewis returns and wins the second Oscar for his work in "There Will Be Blood." His next film is the musical "Nine" that brings a Golden Globe nomination. So Lewis is a remarkable actor, a wonderful movie star who has a lot of success and took important nominations, making him famous all over the world.
