Ralph Fiennes is an English actor known for roles in such films as Schindler's List, English Patient, Maid or Harry Potter franchise. Among his recent roles include that of Michael Berg in The Reader or the role of Hades in Clash of the Titans. For his performances, Fiennes has won numerous awards including a Tony Award. He was nominated twice for an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe. He is also a UNICEF ambassador for Great Britain. Ralph was born in Ipswich and is the eldest of seven children of the photographer Mark Fiennes and his wife Jini (aka Jennifer Lash). His mother and father died in 2004 and 1993. The other brothers are Martha Fiennes, who works as director, Magnus, Sophie who is a producer, the twins Joseph Fiennes and Jacob. His cousin is Sir Ranulph Fiennes, a British explorer. His nephew is Hero Fiennes Tiffin, the actor who played the role of Voldemort in Harry Potter and at 11 years he appeared in the Half-Blood Prince.
In 1973, his family moved to Ireland and Ralph Fiennes made his secondary education in Irish schools, the St. Kieran's College and Newtown School. They moved then to England, in Salisbury and graduated here the Bishop Wordsworth's School. He joined Chelsea College of Art and eventually graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.
He played on stages of the theaters Royal National Theatre and Royal Shakespeare Company in 1987 and 1988. He animated characters as Berowne, in the play Love’s Labour’s Lost, Edmund from King Lear. In 2001 he was awarded with the William Shakespeare Award at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington and Tony Award for playing Hamlet on Broadway.
He started the school at the College of St. Kieran (one year), being educated then at the independent school Newton (Waterford), and after moving to Salisbury he continued his studies at the "Bishop Wordsworth Boys' School" and then at Chelsea College (Art and Design) and enrolled at the Academy Royal Dramatic Art. During the study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts he met Alex Kingston, an English actress whom he married in 1993 after a 10-year relationship, then divorced in 1997. In1995 he began a relationship with Francesca Annis (actress who plays the Hamlet's Mother). But the couple split in 2006, as tabloids confirmed a relationship between Fiennes and the singer Cornelia Crisan, who has Romanian origin.
In 1998 he was the voice of Ramses II in the animation The Prince of Egypt and played in the film Sunshine. A year later he was again nominated for a BAFTA and London Critics' Award for Maurice Bendrix character in The End of the Affair. The movies that followed are Red Dragon (with a Saturn Award nomination), Maid in Manhattan, Chumscrubber, The Constant Gardener, Wallace & Gromit cartoons: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, the voice of Victor Quartermaine, The White Countess, the role of Lord Voldemort from Harry Potter film series, the role of Bernard Lafferty from Bernard and Doris, in Bruges, The Duchess, The Reader and more other fascinating films. Ralph Fiennes is a veritable movie star, who has played amazing roles and notable characters.
