The Aquarium in Atlanta
This aquarium is one of the world's largest aquariums in the world. It is situated in Atlanta, Georgia. The capacity of a giant reservoir is more than 30 million liters. There are already 100 000 inhabitants that live in its water depths.
Description
The shape of the aquarium is interesting. It is a huge cruise ship, divided into 60 separate chambers. The biggest of these is about three-fourths of the total size of the aquarium. Four whale sharks, which belong to the largest fish in the ocean, live there. These four specimens were brought from Taiwan. Continuing its drive to display marine animals rarely seen in the United States, the aquarium acquired a manta ray from an aquarium facility in Durban, Africa, Caught by accident, it had to protect the coast from sharks. Officials at the Durban facility determined that the manta had outgrown its home, and offered the manta to the much-larger Georgia Aquarium.
History
In November 2001, Bernard Marcus confessed his idea of building a present (aquarium ) to Atlanta. He gave 25o million dollars and some major corporations gave 40 million more. It gave the possibility to the aquarium to open debt free. The aquarium was conceived as an entertainment center, but it had to be engaged in oceanographic research. Similar systems existed in Chicago (Shedd Aquarium), and in London, but still their size and the number of species was considerably less. The fish was brought from all over the world. It took 27 months to build it. Today, this aquarium in Atlanta is the greatest in the world.
