Victor Hanescu is a Romanian tennis player. His father, Constantine, and his mother, Cristina, are both engineers, and younger sister, Irina, is practicing swimming. His hobbies include football (is a fan of Steaua Bucharest), fishing and swimming (sports who competed until the age of 12 years). He began playing tennis at 7 years. He started his professional career when won his first ATP at the simple category, ranking points in August 1999, in the F1 and F2 Futures tournaments in Romania. In 2000 Hanescu played in satellite and Futures tournaments. The 4th position obtained from satellite in Croatia in April / May and the 3rd satellite in Portugal in October / November brought him 36, and 45 ATP points at singles category, which ranked him at the end of the year on the 477th place.
The year of 2001 brought him the winning in the Futures and success at Challenger. Hanescu has won his first tournaments as a professional in May 2001, at the F1 and F2 Futures tournaments in Slovakia. In 2002 takes place the first ATP quarter-final, and the first victory in Challenger.
In 2002 Hanescu has not progressed much. However, in July for the first time he reached the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament to Umag, Croatia, and in September won his first Challenger in Portugal. Small successes in Challenger tournaments in April make him to climb to number 150. Then, in April he is qualifing for ATP at Estoril where he arrived in the second round and at the Masters of Rome Hanescu defeats Michael Yujnii, being the highest ranked opponent defeated until that time. At the end of May he qualifies for French Open (Roland Garros), where goes up till the 3rd round, a performance which brings him for the first time in the top 100.
In 2004 Hanescu played almost exclusively in ATP tournaments, but without any success. Although he is well placed to be admitted directly to all four Grand Slam tournaments (Grand Slam) and the Olympics, he was winning only one match in all tournaments. As a success, in March he is registering his first semi-final in ATP tournament, one in Scottsdale, and some quarter-finals, including at Estoril in April and in Bucharest in September.
His weak results make him to come back in Challenger tournaments, where in March, in Italy in the first round he wins against Bjorn Phau (ATP 126). His protected status in April gives access to participate in two ATP tournaments, but has no success, so that he returns in Challenger tournaments, where he reaches the semifinals and final quarter. In August he wins two consecutive Challenger tournaments in Romania and Austria and climbs to the 151 position. In September, at the ATP tournament from Bucharest, ge gets till finals, but is losing his first ATP final in three sets in Gilles Simon. Victor Hanescu is still an incredible tennis player, even he has known many failures but still keeps the majesty of the game alive. He knows how to enchant his spectator’s eyes with exciting and spectacular matches.
