Islam
Islam in Arabic means "submission". This is a monotheistic religion, one of the world religions (along with Christianity and Buddhism), and its followers are Muslims. Islam was originated in Arabia in VII. The founder of Islam is Mohammed. Islam was formed under the significant influence of Christianity and Judaism. As a result of the Arab conquests, Islam was spread to the Middle East, and later in some countries in the Far East, Southeast Asia, and Africa. The main principles of Islam are set out in the Koran. The main dogmas consist of worship to a single Allah God and honor of the Prophet Muhammad - the Missionary of Allah. Muslims believe in the immortality of the soul and the afterlife.
Here are the main five main obligations (canon of Islam) prescribed for the followers of Islam:
1. to believe no God but only Allah, and Muhammad is the Missionary of Allah;
2. to pray five times per day;
3. to give alms to the poor people;
4. to keep the fast during the Ramadan;
5. to pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in life.
The Holy Tradition is Sunnah. The main directions are considered to be Sunnism and Shiism. In the X century there was created a system of theoretical theology - Kalam, Islamic legal system was developed in the Shari'ah. In the VIII-IX centuries there appeared a mystical denomination - Sufism. The number of Islam followers is more than 880 million people (1990). Islam is considered to be the state religion in the countries with a Muslim majority.
